What can we do in and around Santiago?

From September till April there is lots of Sun, see temperature chart. The apartments have a swimmingpool, fitness and BBQ area's  of which some on a roof with an incredible view.

Map ChiliFrom half of June till October you can ski here, you have a choice out of 5 ski area's and when you are tired of skiing you can go to the Pacific Ocean to enjoy the sun and beach with a delicious glass of Chilean wine and traditional Chilean food. (In the apartment is a booklet where all the excursions are explained!)

Taste the delicious Chilean wines in one of the vine yards. These two vine yards are easy to reach and you can visit them in the space of 1 day. The first vine yard is a vine yard with good wine which is also available for export. The second vine yard is with exclusive wines without any chemicals. These visits are really worth while.

Visit handycraft markets

handycraftIn Chile there is much local handycraft such as copper, pottery, clothes and many more things, all hand made. Pueblos Dominicos is a hacienda full of little local shops with handycrafts and arts and a nice traditional Chilean lunch. Closer to the apartments you can visit Santa Lucia handycraft market which is walking distance from the Santiago Center apartment.

Cultural attractions

It doesn't really matter in which part of the city your are staying. Santiago has a huge amount of attractions and neighbourhoods which will keep you busy for days. Just like New York or Paris you cannot see all of this city in a few days. Below are only a few of many cultural attractions with links behind them for more information. Shopping?

Go shopping cheaply in Parque Arauco.

Santaigo has very mordern shopping centers, Parque Arauco (above) or Alto Las Condes (below). Here you can enjoy a nice lunch after a hard days shopping. In the vening there is live music in the many restaurants.

For the more traditional way of shopping, go to Patronato (a clothes area), vegetable markets in the neighbourhood or the Vega Central which is the main vegetable and fruit market or Bella Vista with the Lapizlazul or the Persa Bio Bio. Here you can enjoy the 'Chilean' way of shopping.

Mercado Central

Mercado Central is an experience of all five senses. Housed in a 19th-century wrought iron building, this large market actually consists of many smaller markets, including a fish market, meat market, vegetable market, and flower market, as well as hundreds of individual booths selling anything from traditional handicrafts to soccer jerseys. There is also an entire section of Mercado Central devoted to small restaurants serving just about any kind of seafood you can imagine and even some you can’t!

Wine route, travel back in time

Every Saturday at 10:30 AM we embark on a fantastic trip back in time. The tour begins in the city of San Fernando and the trip is 90 minutes to Santa Cruz, passing by some of Colcahgua Valley’s main vineyards on the way. During the excursion you will have the opportunity to taste wines accompanied by homemade cheeses from the area and nuts as well as a folk singer who will entertains you with songs and ballads. From the Santa Cruz station, where a young folklore group will welcome passengers, we will go directly to one of the valley’s vineyards and enter into the fascinating world of wine. In this wine’s birthplace we will learn about its production and tasting techniques.

Come to ski in 5 different area's and cheap!

Santiago is surrounded by 5 ski area's, Lagunilles at 60 km where you are probably the only skier during the week. La Parva at 39 km, El Colorado at 41 km and Valle Nevado at 60 km, these are very modern ski area's which are easy reachable by bus or car from the apartments. U can also buy a ticket for all 3 area's because they are connected. Portillo is a modern ski area at 165 km distance on the road to Mendoza Argentina. If you look at the links behind the pictures and you see the prices from for example Lagunillas you find you can ski here very cheaply.

Cajon Del Maipo

In Cajon Del Maipo, bordering Santiago in the south, you can enjoy nature, nice restaurants, ski, wild water rafting, horse riding and thermas baths. This area you can reach easely from Santiago by bus or car. It is a nice day in the mountains and enjoy the incredible nature. The apartment contains a map to help you.

Mendoza Argentina

Mendoza Argentina is fairly close and the landscape on the road to Mendoza is out of this world.

Mendoza is 5 hours drive or 6 hours by bus from Santiago. You will travel through the Andes and enjoy the different landscape of Argentina. You can do this excursion from the apartment with night stay in Mendoza.

Pomaire

Go and visit the pottery village of Pomaire with it handycraft and restaurants.

Pomaire, close to Melepilla at the Santiago side, is a little village where clay pottery is made. You can also eat delicious Chilean food here, parilla, and see more artisan of Chilean nature. The village is full of folklore and close to Santiago.

The beach in Vina Del Mar or Valparaiso

Vina Del mar and Valparaiso are 2 connected cities at the beach. From Santiago you can take a bus which leaves every 15 minutes, and in 1.5 hours you are at the beach. This bus will bring you back in the evening. You can also rent a car (see map)

Vina Del mar has beautiful beach with Casino.

Going out

Santiago has a lot of places where you can enjoy a day or night out. In Barrio Bellavista you can enjoy the arts and restaurants and the terraces. Beside in Barrios Bellas Artes are potteries, engraving and sculpture and much more arts and restaurants. Providencia has a dynamic center for business and going out. Plaza Nunoa is a bohemian square full of bars and restaurants. All these area's are full of terraces with the possibility to enjoy the sun with some food or a drink.
